To enhance healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a Lawmaker representing the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Obika, has donated essential medical supplies to select hospitals in the Territory.

The donation was received by the Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, in Abuja.

Fasawe commended Obika’s thoughtfulness and generosity, highlighting that such gestures reflect the critical role of the legislative arm in advancing social welfare.

She noted that the FCT Administration is actively engaging well-to-do individuals to support healthcare initiatives.

Her words: “Today is a great example of an individual fulfilling his civic duty that needs commendation.”

“This donation ensures that residents of AMAC and Bwari have better access to affordable and quality healthcare,” Fasawe said.

Presenting the equipment, Obika emphasized the need for collaboration between the public and private sectors to bridge gaps in healthcare funding to further improve service delivery.

“Healthcare is a top priority in my legislative agenda, followed by education and rural infrastructure,” he added.

The Lawmaker lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as a leader with a strong track record in public service and infrastructural development.

Obika pledged to recognize and reward hardworking medical professionals within his constituency.

He announced plans to honor outstanding medical workers and top-performing hospital Directors in the FCT at the end of the year.

In addition to the medical supplies, Obika personally donated ₦500,000 to Dr. Yibala Alpama Edimek, who recently emerged as the overall best candidate in the Fellowship Examination of the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the West African College of Surgeons (WACS).

This, he said, was to encourage medical excellence in the FCT.

The donated medical items, including surgical supplies, gowns, gloves, eyeglasses, urological catheters, thyroid drapes, blood pressure cuffs, and other essential equipment, were distributed to Kubwa General Hospital, Gwarimpa General Hospital, and Maitama General Hospital.

The event was attended by the Acting Director General of the FCT Hospital Management Board, Dr. Olugbenga Bello, among other hospital Medical Directors.

Abuja Digest reports that the generous contribution underscores the commitment to improving healthcare in the FCT and serves as a call to action for more stakeholders to support the sub-sector.
