FCTA MOVES TO SCALE UP NURSING PRACTICE: HOLDS NURSE LEADERS SUMMIT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has made a bold step to significantly scale up Nursing Practices in both Public and Private Health Facilities within the territory by hosting the 2026 2nd Quarter Nurse Leaders Summit through the Health Services and Environment Secretariat’s Department of Nursing Services.
The Summit which held on Wednesday 29th July, 2026 at the Asokoro District Hospital brought together Nurse Leaders from Public and Private Health Facilities within FCT to deliberate on the theme; “Optimal Nursing Services in FCT through Consistency, Integration and Collaborative Leadership”.
Speaking at the Summit, the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) FCT-HSES, Mrs. Ijeoma Jimi-Bada said that, the essence of the summit is to “unite all Nursing workforce in FCT” by sharing professional experiences on practice, achievements and challenges through discussions to collectively proffer solutions in line with the profession’s standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure uniform practice in FCT.
To achieve optimal Nursing Services in the FCT, Mrs. Bada noted that Consistency is very pertinent and involves ” uniformity of practice that represents accountability, safety of practice, compliance to expectations and ownership for patient care which contributes to operational efficiency, improved patient satisfaction and standardized processes” she said.
The DNS also described Integration of Nursing Workforce for optimal efficiency to be “a multifaceted approach that delivers coordinated patient-centered care which calls for coordinated action, shared experiences and sustained collaboration for improved service delivery”.
She continued that Leadership is apt to achieving better Nursing Services because ” purposeful leadership direction will increase the proportion and authority of Nurses & Midwives in senior Health & Academic positions and continually develop and empower the next generation of Nursing & Midwifery leaders”; thus; Mrs. Bada urged participants to be open to discussions and contribute meaningfully where necessary.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) FCT Council, Comrade Jama Medan mentioned that the theme of the summit “is timely and relevant because quality healthcare through Nursing Services can only be achieved when Nurses work together with unity of purpose, professionalism, accountability and effective collaboration across all levels of care”.
In addition, the NANNM Chairman charged Nurse Leaders at the summit to prioritize and demonstrate “integrity, innovation, mentorship, teamwork, effective leadership as well as embrace evidence-based practices, digital health technologies, continuous professional development and also strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration to meet growing healthcare needs of the territory,” he said.
The Summit brought together Nurse Leaders from FCTA Primary and Secondary facilities, Public Tertiary Facilities like National Hospital and Federal Medical Center Abuja, including Leaders from Alliance and Cedacrest Hospitals in Abuja amongst others.
