FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong optimism that all ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the territory will be completed and handed over to President Bola Tinubu by December 2026.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, July 30, 2026, following an extensive inspection tour of major project sites in Abuja, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work carried out by various construction firms.
He specifically highlighted progress at the Research and Institution Avenue project, handled by the CCECC, and the ongoing road works managed by Arab Contractors (Nig) Ltd.
Wike noted that the mutual trust and commitment between the FCT Administration and its contractor partners have been pivotal in driving rapid progress across the capital city.
The Minister reassured residents that even long-standing legacy projects awarded as far back as 2010 are being systematically completed alongside newly initiated infrastructure to transform Abuja into a world-class capital.
Reflecting on the progress observed during the tour, Wike stated that the visible transformation across the city stands as a clear testament to the current administration’s dedication to providing critical basic infrastructure.
He reaffirmed that the FCTA will continue to meet its financial obligations to ensure contractors remain on schedule to hit the end-of-year completion targets.
Commenting on the Millennium Tower project, the Minister disclosed that, as a national project, he believed the government should reconsider it, especially because it is a tourist center project, adding that the capital involved is too large for the FCT to include in its statutory budget.
“We have discussed with the contractor; remember that the project was awarded under the Obasanjo regime. As I speak to you, it’s not less than 300 to 400 billion Naira that the contractor is talking about.
“And if you look at it, how do we carry such a project? It means that every other project in Abuja will have to be abandoned. But we are still talking to the President that we should reconsider it as a national project. So, that’s where we are,” he explained.
