President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that his administration is focused on delivering tangible results for Nigerians, declaring that it was elected to work and not merely occupy public office.

Represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the completed Akinwumi Ajibola Street and adjoining road network comprising Important Local Streets 16, 18 and 19 in Gaduwa District, Abuja. The event formed part of the 16th day of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s 31-day project commissioning programme marking the administration’s third anniversary.

Describing the project as another milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu said the completed road network demonstrates the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly improves the lives of citizens.

“We are here to open a road, but more importantly, we are here to restore access. In this government, we measure ourselves by finished work. We did not come to occupy space; we came to work,” he said.

The President noted that residents of Gaduwa had endured years of poor access despite developing their neighbourhood, adding that the new roads would improve mobility, reduce travel time, enhance property values, minimise vehicle damage, and stimulate economic activities within the district.

He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for transforming project delivery in the territory through effective supervision and timely execution.

According to him, the administration has ended the era of abandoned projects, insisting that every district deserves quality infrastructure and the visible impact of government.

President Tinubu also urged residents to safeguard the infrastructure by protecting drainage systems, streetlights, and other public facilities to ensure their longevity.

Speaking earlier, FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike said the commissioning marked the sixteenth project inaugurated under the administration’s anniversary programme and reflected President Tinubu’s directive that every district of the FCT should benefit from government projects.

He recalled that upon assuming office, the President instructed the FCT Administration to ensure balanced development across both the city centre and satellite communities, a directive he said has guided the execution of projects across districts including Jahi, Gwarimpa, Katampe, Guzape and Kwali.

Wike expressed appreciation to the President for his unwavering support and to the National Assembly for the timely passage of the FCT budget, which he said facilitated the prompt execution of development projects.

The Minister also cautioned the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council against naming federally constructed roads without the Federal Government’s approval, stressing that while local councils have responsibilities for street naming, due process must be followed for roads funded by the Federal Government.

In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the inauguration as another landmark achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the administration’s people-centred policies have accelerated the delivery of critical infrastructure across the territory.

She commended President Tinubu, Minister Wike, the National Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, contractors, consultants, security agencies, development partners, the media, and residents of Gaduwa District for their support and cooperation throughout the execution of the project.

Dr. Mahmoud reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Capital Territory Administration to sustaining infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for residents across Abuja.
