In a second project inauguration in Abuja on the same day, President Bola Tinubu has commissioned a new 10-unit staff quarters complex at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja. He simultaneously approved the construction of an additional 20 units.
The President, who was represented at the occasion on Monday, 6 July, 2026, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, described the project as a fulfillment of his administration’s covenant to reform and rebuild Nigeria’s institutional foundations.
President Tinubu stated that the legal profession is the guardian of democracy and the rule of law, saying that the educators who shape future lawyers must themselves work in an environment of dignity and stability.
Again, he commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for the initiative, linking the project’s success to the administration’s decision to pull the FCT Administration out of the Treasury Single Account (TSA). This move, he said, granted the necessary financial flexibility to deliver projects without bureaucratic delays.
Tinubu revealed a broader infrastructure plan for the legal sector, including funding for a new auditorium and student hostels at the law school, the full digitization of its operations, the recently constructed Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, new magistrate courts across the FCT, and a state-of-the-art residential quarter for judges in the city.
President Tinubu concluded by assuring that his administration will not abandon projects, vowing to “fund what we flag off, finish what we start, and continue to invest heavily in the future of our youth.”
In his remarks earlier, FCT Minister recalled his shock upon discovering that the Nigerian Law School had operated for years on the land without a formal title. He said he immediately waived all fees and directed the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy within one week.
Wike then disclosed that after the DG’s presentation, President Tinubu questioned why more had not been done for the school. “You now told me to announce to them that we are going to build 20 more of this complex,” Wike stated, publicly thanking the President for the approval.
The Minister also issued a direct on-the-spot directive concerning the stalled construction of 316-bed hostels for law students, ordering the FCDA to ensure all owed funds are paid this month and that the contractors return to site immediately to complete the buildings before the end of the year.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, on her part, described the staff quarters as a strategic investment in legal education and institutional development.
She stated the project reflects the administration’s resolve to support institutions that shape human capital and contribute to national growth, emphasizing that it is ultimately about improving staff welfare and creating an environment conducive to excellence.
