TINUBU INAUGURATES KARU TOWNSHIP BROADS, COMMENDS URBAN RENEWAL DRIVE

President Bola Tinubu declared that the ongoing overhaul of road infrastructure in satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory is designed to “inject life back into the local economy.”
The President, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, spoke on Monday, 29 June, 2026, during the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu township roads -a project he hailed as a testament to his administration’s pledge to ease urban congestion and improve living standards for FCT residents.
Tinubu described the development as a direct outcome of his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at modernizing the capital’s infrastructure. “When we took office three years ago, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live, work and commute,” he said.
He noted that the Karu corridor, a critical gateway linking the FCT to neighboring states, had long been plagued by severe traffic gridlock that sapped residents’ productivity and energy. “By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” Tinubu emphasized.
The completed project has slashed daily travel times, eliminated frustrating hold-ups, and created conditions for businesses in the densely populated area to thrive, he added.
President Tinubu praised the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, crediting him with driving the capital’s rapid physical transformation. “The aggressive implementation of our urban renewal master plan is visible for everyone to see,” the President said. “I sincerely commend the minister and his team.”
He also applauded the contractor, Abuja-based Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, for delivering quality work on time -proof, he said, that Nigerian firms can match international standards in quality, structural integrity, and project management.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister urged residents to acknowledge the government’s efforts regardless of political affiliation. “It doesn’t matter the political party you belong to. When you see a good thing, say, ‘this is a good thing,’” the minister stated. “Whether anybody hates you, he cannot hate this road.”
Wike assured every community and district in the FCT of steady development and dividends of democracy under the Tinubu administration. He also commended Abdul-Val Constructions for demonstrating that local contractors “have come of age.”
“For this local contractor, I have seen that whether the money is there to pay him or not, he will never abandon the site,” Wike said. “He will continue to work and say, ‘Mr Minister, I believe in this government of Bola Tinubu.’”
Earlier, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, explained that the roads -awarded in August 2025—runs from the Karu Interchange along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction. It includes DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road, and Old CBN Quarters Road, all within Karu town.
Zulkiflu said the project would significantly improve accessibility, ensure smooth traffic flow, provide effective drainage, and enhance security in the area.
“Karu is one of the highly populated satellite towns of the FCT, and its proximity to the city center has made it a preferred abode for many prominent Nigerians,” he noted. “With this road, in less than a 10-minute drive, you are already in the city center.”
In a vote of thanks earlier, the Acting of Service, FCT, Nancy Nathan, said: “Today marks another milestone in the unwavering commitment of the Renewed Hope Agenda in providing quality infrastructure to ease transportation and enhance economic activities.”
She expressed sincere gratitude, on belalf of the FCT Administration and the people of Karu, to the President for his continued commitment to national development and infrastructure renewal.
