22nd Commonwealth Games: Tobi Amusan, 93 Others to Represent Nigeria

The 22nd Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham, England kicks off with a total of 94 athletes representing Nigeria in various sporting events.

Nigeria is participating in nine sports with athletics presenting 33 competitors, wrestling with 11 boxing and weightlifting teams nine each, while Para-powerlifting and table tennis comprise eight players each.

Others are Para-table tennis 7, Para-athletics 5, and judo 4 competitors.

Still fresh from her world record-breaking exploits at the World Athletics Championships, Tobi Amusan is leading in the chase for medals and hoping to defend her title from the last games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Other Star athletes who are expected to push Nigeria’s medal quest include wrestlers Blessing Oborodudu, Odunayo Adekuoroye, and Table Tennis ace Aruna Quadri among a host of others.

Nigeria was represented by 88 athletes in eight events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, and got a total of 24 medals comprising nine gold, nine silver, and six bronze to place the ninth position on the medals table.
