FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has assured that Abuja is safe and able to host the All Africa Military Games.

Wike gave the assurance when the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, paid him a visit, Wednesday.

The Minister dispelled impressions from outsiders over insecurity in Nigeria; saying, “It will also show that Nigeria is safe, Abuja is safe; come and see the city. Sometimes, like you said, people have impression from outside without even having a first hand information. So I believe that when they come here, they will go back home with a different narrative.”

He praised the military for working hard to keep the country and city safe.

According to him, “In terms of security in Abuja, they’ve done quite well. We will not have arrived here to say. All over the world, you still have some pockets of your security everywhere. So do not be deterred. You are doing very well. Insecurity has come down. Even the insurgency has also reduced. And so, Nigerians should commend you people”.

“It is not easy. It’s not only when something happens, you forget all the ones that you have been doing. But for us, we know that you’ve done very well. And with the support of Mr. President, I know it will be a thing of the past,” he added.

Expressing readiness of the FCT Administration to support the military towards a successful hosting of the games in Abuja, the Minister revealed that it was an opportunity to showcase Nigeria and the FCT to the world.

His words: “Because this games is an international game, we don’t want any embarrassment in terms of security threats here and there. So we have to do something. So CDS, let me assure you, we are here to work together. If there are any areas you think that are not clear, let us know. And let me commend you for the support of your men with other security agencies”.

Speaking earlier on the purpose of his visit, General Musa, solicited support of the Minister towards a successful outing in Abuja.

The Chief of Defence Staff hailed the Minister for turning around the FCT for good within a short period of time; pledging the continued efforts of the military and other security agencies in ensuring security in Nigeria and FCT.

Abuja Digest reports that the games scheduled for next month in Abuja will attract not less than 40 countries to the Nigerian capital.
