BUHARI TO DECLARE POLICE GAMES OPEN IN UYO

If all work as planned, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to declare open, the 13th Biennial Game of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

The game which is aimed at engineering competition, sportsmanship, and enhancing the mental well-being of officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), will hold between 23rd to 30th November 2022.

A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force is set to unveil its sporting talents at the week-long event.

It further stated that about 4,500 Police athletes will be participating in various sporting activities.

According to the Force spokesman, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel will be the chief host of this all-important event.

Adejobi, also said that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, is passionate about sports development in the NPF.

The athletes drawn from the 17 Zonal Commands and the Force Headquarters will feature and compete in several indoor and outdoor sporting activities, which include athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, judo, taekwondo, weightlifting, golf, chess, squash, shooting, karate, swimming, hockey, badminton, triathlon, handball amongst others.

He explained that the game will provide an opportunity for hidden sporting talents within the Force to be discovered as they will be given a platform to showcase their aptitudes to the world and subsequently make Nigeria proud as constantly exhibited by the Nigeria Police Force in the sports business.

He observed that the event will enable the Force to engage the public, build goodwill and advance its community policing ideals anchored on mutual trust, understanding, and partnership with the public.

It will be recalled that the police have raised many sportsmen and women who later won medals at international events for the nation.
