The Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, CON, has pledged his full support to the efforts of the FCT Badminton Association to grow the sport and empower young people through it. He made this commitment during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the association, led by Retired Comptroller Usman Bappa, to his palace in Keffi.
The Emir, who is widely recognised as one of the “Royal Fathers and Friends of Badminton,” praised the association for its commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment through sports. He commended the association’s strategy of using badminton as a tool to engage the younger generation, promote discipline, and create opportunities for talent discovery and growth.
He said as a royal father, his priority has always been the well-being of people, especially the youth. H added that any initiative that contributes to the growth and development of youths is one he will gladly support.
The Emir said Badminton, beyond being a sport, can be a powerful channel for shaping lives and building a better future.
He assured the delegation of his unwavering support and that of the entire Keffi Emirate in promoting badminton and creating awareness about its benefits. He also promised to use his influence to reach out to well-meaning individuals within and outside the emirate who can partner with the association in furthering its cause.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the FCT Badminton Association, Rtd Comptroller Usman Bappa, appreciated the Emir’s warm reception and goodwill. He informed the royal father of the association’s achievements so far, particularly in grassroots mobilisation, talent identification, and sustained awareness campaigns aimed at increasing participation in the sport across the Federal Capital Territory.
Bappa explained that since its inauguration, the leadership of the association has been turning every stone to ensure the game of badminton grows and reaches every corner of the FCT. He outlined a robust agenda that includes hosting tournaments, organising coaching and player development clinics, partnering with schools and communities, and generally creating a strong badminton culture in the territory.
He appealed to the Emir to continue playing his role as a key advocate and connector, helping the association build bridges with individuals and institutions that can provide the needed support and resources.
The visit ended on a high note, with both parties expressing optimism about the future of badminton in the FCT. With the backing of traditional institutions like the Keffi Emirate, the association is confident that its vision of transforming lives through sports is well on course.
