Falconets Qualify for FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup Quarter-Final

Nigeria booked their FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup quarter-final berth with a game to spare after Esther Onyenezide’s breakthrough in the 83rd minute saw Nigeria edge South Korea in a Group C encounter.

Nigeria now tops Group C with 6 points after two Group Games ahead of South Korea, France, and Canada.

Just like their first game against France, the Falconets saw their fixture versus South Korea billed to kick off at 9 pm shifted to 10.15 pm due to heavy rain.

The game eventually commenced with both teams going for the jugular as attempts were made to break the deadlock.

However, it was the Falconets who drew first blood with a superb finish from Onyenezide to give the Falconets the lead.

The Koreans resiliently pushed forward for the equalizer but could not break down a resilient Falconets defense thanks to the heroics of Goalkeeper Oyono.

This is now a third consecutive win for the Falconets against South Korea in the history of the U-20 women’s World Cup.

The coach Christopher Danjuma-tutored side will face Canada in their final group game on Wednesday at 3 am Nigerian time.

Only two teams are on maximum points at the end of the second series of group games – Nigeria and defending champions Japan.
