In order to maintain a healthy and productive workforce, the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s monthly jogging and aerobic exercise will resume in the next couple of weeks.
The exercise, which began in 2017 with the theme of creating a healthy, strong, and vibrant Federal Capital Territory Administration workforce, was suspended in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Acting Director, FCT Sports Department, Luka Istifanus made known during a meeting with representatives of all Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDA’s) under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
Major issues discussed at the meeting include hosting as well as how to introduce new ideas into the exercise -which presently only involves jogging and aerobics, in addition to how to make it more inclusive and attractive.
The need to develop an exercise template that will be tailor-made to the health status, age and sporting interest of the staff was also identified as one sure way of getting the most benefits out of the exercise.
The Director said the revival of the jogging exercise should be a welcomed development for all staff of the FCTA as it will now come in an enhanced package to take care of individual needs and called on all, to support it by showing interest and to participate fully.
His words: “First and foremost, we at the sports department are grateful and very happy for the approval to resume the monthly jogging exercise.”
Istifanus added that “The essence of the meeting, therefore, is to enable the various agencies, departments, and secretariats to brainstorm and revive the monthly jogging exercise that was suspended as a result of the outbreak of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. “
The monthly exercise will be planned and coordinated by the Sports Department while the various SDA’s will take turns in hosting it on the first Saturday of every month.
The FCT Sports Department will host the first Post-Covid exercise on the 3rd September 2022, at Old Parade Ground Area 10 Garki Abuja by 7:00 am.
