FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to change the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in one year.
Wike made the declaration in his office, while playing host to a delegation from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on Tuesday.
He noted that though there were numerous challenges in the FCT, he and his team, was determined to succeed.
The Minister regretted that anything one does in Nigeria, there were coloration, as some would view any action or decision with religious, tribal or political sentiments.
His words: “Here in the FCT, it is not easy, but we are determined to succeed. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, anything you do, there are colourations -religious, political and tribal colourations. When you are about to make changes; they will call you all sort of names -they will say because I am not from his religion, tribe or political party.”
The Minister stressed, “We cannot continue like that. You must take a decision; you may not be right all the time….we will do everything to change the FCT”.
Highlighting the need to make Nigeria work like other countries, Wike declared: “Let us make our country to look like others. In the next one year, FCT will look different, it will not be the same”.
The Minister, who promised to support AMCON to achieve its objectives, however, warned the Managing Director of AMCON, saying: “Your office is a very difficult one, because you will face all kinds of blackmail, but Mr. President believes in you. You are going there because there are challenges. If there are no challenges, you wouldn’t be appointed in the first place”.
Speaking earlier, AMCON Managing Director, Gbenga Alade, who led the Corporation’s new executive members on the courtesy visit, explained that the visit was to seek support and collaboration of the FCT Administration in the discharge of its duty.
Alade decried that the Federal Government was owed huge bad debts by “powerful Nigerians”, which President Bola Tinubu has mandated them to collect.
The AMCON boss hailed Wike for transforming the FCT within a short period of time, describing him as “an action Minister.”
