President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, 26 June 2026, commissioned the newly completed Collector Roads 01 and 02 in Mabushi District, declaring the event a pivotal step in opening up Abuja and connecting its residents to greater opportunities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stated that the project marked an end to years of traffic bottlenecks and unnecessary detours in the area, reclaiming time lost for work, family, and education. He framed the infrastructure within his administration’s broader vision.
“We are not just opening two roads. We are opening up Abuja,” the President said. “When roads connect, businesses grow. When movement is easy, productivity rises. When travel is safe, citizens are free. That is the Renewed Hope Agenda at work.”
He directly addressed the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, thanking them for their patience during the construction phase and urging them to protect the new assets. The President reserved special commendation for the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, whom he credited with turning blueprints into tangible progress.
“Barr. Wike, you have continued to show what focused leadership can achieve,” Tinubu said. “I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all’. You took it and ran with it… Your energy, your insistence on delivery, and your refusal to accept excuses are why the FCT is transforming under this administration.”
The event formed part of a 31-day series of project commissionings marking the administration’s third anniversary. FCT Minister Wike, in his remarks, noted that the Mabushi commissioning was the 13th project unveiled in this marathon, following the recent opening of an interchange linking Jahi to Gwarimpa.
The FCT Minister who spoke earlier, attributed the flurry of activity in the capital to the President’s directive and supportive leadership. “When you have a courageous leadership, when you have an assertive leadership, when you have leadership that is focused and determined to achieve results, the subordinate will not have any other choice,” Wike stated.
He emphasized the catalytic role of road infrastructure in development, pointing to new housing along the newly commissioned route as immediate proof. “Road is the bedrock of any development… Roads have brought about infrastructure. Houses are going up,” he remarked.
In a concluding pledge, the Minister told the President that before the end of the 31-day period, he would compile a list of roads delivered to the residences of opposition figures “whichever faction they may belong to.”
The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, in a vote of thanks, described President Tinubu as “the tireless helmsman of the Renewed Hope Agenda” and praised the Minister as “a master builder of Nigeria’s capital city.” She called on FCT residents to unite in preserving the new public investments for future generations.
